Each level corresponds to different competencies in the language:

Goethe

Fide

The language proficiency test fide was initiated by the State Secretariat for Migration (SEM) and is recognized nationwide in Switzerland.

You can use it in your application documents for the extension of residence permits B or C, for naturalization, when registering for further education, or applying to job offers.

In the fide Test, oral and written language competencies are measured separately. The fide Test consists of two parts: "Speaking and Understanding" and "Reading and Writing." You can either take both parts or only one part.

In the fide Test, the result will not be "passed" or "not passed"; instead, your achieved CEFR level (A1, A2, or B1) in various skills will be indicated, depending on demonstrated abilities and your tested language proficiency.
